Congratulations to my husband David for receiving a lifetime achievement award from the World Council of Professional Martial Artists and the Kid's Safe Network for his lifetime service and dedication to the mission and goals of the martial arts community in addition to helping children with adhd and autism. This high honor has previously been awarded to Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris. Only a few masters each year are given this award and I'm very proud of him

http://www.forbes.com/2006/02/11/local-currencies-ithaca_cz_el_money06_0214local.html The above link is to an article about local currency systems such as Traverse City, MI Bay Bucks and Ithaca, NY Ithaca Hours. This idea is catching on as more and more communities are developing thier own systems. It's perfectly legal and what a wonderful way of keeping a local economy moving and encouraging people to patronize local business. Read the article and tell me what you think. Do you think it would work with an internet community as well? Can't wait to hear your thoughts :)

Just moved back to my old neighborhood a couple of weeks ago. Oh how I missed this place! A subdivision nestled between two of many lakes in the area and a section of woods behind us. I finally had a chance to go for a walk this morning. There was a chill in the air but the sun was shining and warming. I rediscovered some of my old trails. The solitude was wonderful and refreshing. I found deer tracks and racoon poop LOL. The trails cross a creek and I sat by the bridge to meditate for a spell while listening to the trickling water and the rustle of the trees. The trees are getting some of their fall color as I glanced around in appreciation for the beauty of nature that was surrounding me. I'm home :)

NASTY FACTS ABOUT COLA 1. The active ingredient is phosphoric acid. It's PH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis. 2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup, a commecial truck must use the HAZARDOUS MATERIALS cards reserved for corrosive chemicals. 3. Cola is used to remove blood and can dissolve a T-bone steak in two days 4. Cola can be used on car battery terminals to bubble away the corrosion 5. A rusty bolt soaked in cola will loosen after several minutes Do you want this inside your body ? Virtually all carbonated beverages block calcium absorption and leached minerals from bones. 20 oz cokes contain almost 1/3 cup of sugar ! Many people with MS stopped drinking diet sodas and their MS symptoms vanished MS- direct link to consuming Aspartame in diet soda Scientific evidence that sugar is damaging to our health is overwhelming. Elevated insulin has been known to promote the growth of cancer cells. The U.S. has the highest rate of Leukemia in the world, possibly because of all the consumption of pastries, ice cream treats and soft drinks.Soft drinks are invading the world. Caffeine is a bitter, bad-tasting substance, that in order to hide, requires about 9 teaspoons of sugar for every can of soda. Soft drinks are now sweetened with corn syrup, which provides many calories and no nutrients. The fructose in high-fructose corn syrup spikes the insulin level even more than sugar does. Soft drinks are loaded with phosphoric acid, which is present in all soft drinks, changes the body's calcium-phosphorus ratio, forcing the body to draw on it's bone-calcium to buffer the phosphoric acid.Soft drinks leach calcium. This condition causes the skull to shrink and the teeth to become crowded. Sugar is also responsible for excessive wrinkling of the skin. It attaches to the proteins of the collagen, causing collagen to cross-link, making the skin stiff and inflexible. Elevated insulin causes inflammation within every cell of the body. The result is prematurely aged skin. Sugar interacting with the collagen in the body, creates another problem- a condition called the browning reaction- freckles and age spots. Freckles signal that the body is eliminating a surplus of simple sugars. brown spots on the cheeks indicate that sugar is damaging the respiratory and digestive organs. Sugar mainly affects the liver, kidneys, spleen, intestines and reproductive organs. Pimples on the forehead indicate intestinal and liver problems, on the cheeks they signal the lungs are in trouble: on the nose-the heart: on the chin- the sex organs. LO-CAL DRINKS- even though the beverage only contains one calorie, your body becomes prone to create fat as soon as you eat some real food. That's why the more artificial sweeteners you use, the more likely you are to actually gain weight. This is confirmed by a study of 80,000 women over a period of 6 years in 1986. Refined sugar must be eliminated from the diet. And of course all artificial sweeteners lead to disease such as MS and cancer. Again- do you want this in your body?

Shorter day trips, to the zoo or local attraction can be a money saver in these unpredictable times. In many areas, along with gas prices rising, house values are dropping which is forcing so many to stay in their homes rather than lose money sellng. Now combine all of this with the fear of terrorism on one hand and on the other folks that are awakening spiritually no longer find joy in hanging out at the night clubs and rubbing elbows with the superficial crowd. So now we have another buzz word. "cocooning" Families spending more time at home...enjoying one another on a deeper level, getting back to core values.
