New technology and those who are willing to share new ideas.
Singing, people religiously involved, especially those who practice casting bread on the waters.

Drugs, self-proclaimed experts, ego and niggardly people.

After a brief stint at Art Center College and UCLA I dropped out of school to take advantage of my skills as a commercial photographer working with a Top-Secret clearance in the NASA space program for such sub contractors as, Litton Industries, RCA, Hughes Research Labs and Packard Bell.

This led to a 20 year career in commercial printing ending with more than 8 years as a regional sales manager for two major West coast printers.

After my own unfortunate experience with a major publisher my wife Anita and I began GM Books in 1985 to specialize in Self Publishing. We offer a hand in the dark to first time authors and an alternative to rejection letters.

Since 1985, we have produced and published over 130 titles including Witness to War for the Los Angeles Times which won a Pulitzer. We were involved in 4 titles which each sold over one million copies...The 1984 Los Angeles Summer Games for Atlantic Richfield, The 1988 Winter Gamers for ABC Sports, Understanding Money and Markets for the Wall Street Journal and Investing in the 90's for Fortune Magazine.

As the author of 5 books on Balkan history and music, including the 1992 book, Kosovo, my work has published in The Wall Street Journal, Arizona Republic, The Washington Times and International Herald Tribune among others, with guest appearances on more than 200 radio programs and a number of television appearances as an expert on Balkan history during the recent Civil Wars in Bosnia and Kosovo.

My current book is, Defeat Foreclosure, a book written to help homeowners save their house, their credit and defend themselves against fraudulent foreclosure schemes. My newest book to publish in October, 2008 is, The Nursing Home Crisis to share my own family experience with placing a loved one in a nursing home.

My real last name is Todorovic, my father was from Vojnic in the Krajina. So, we may be cousins?

When my father came to the United States and arrived at Ellis Island the judge could not understand his name so he gave him the name he thought he heard, Dorich.  When my father became an American citizen he had used the name for so many years that he decided to change it legally, therefore, I have a very unorthodox Serbian name.

Dear Jason:

I don't care for either candidate, both scare the hell out of me, but a nation is at stake in this election and like millions of others I have to get over it and make a decision based not on personalities because Obama wins that one hands down.  My decision, like the scale of Lady Justice needs to be balanced between what is good for the country and what evil socialism brings.  Keep in mind Hitler was elected to power!

Having spent the last 15 years in real estate I wrote Defeat Foreclosure, I saw this coming down the hill like an 18 wheeler without brakes last year when I wrote the book and predicted that we would see home values in California drop by 40%.  My colleagues and my clients who received my newsletters though I had lost touch with reality.  Being proved right gives me little comfort.  Here in Los Angeles last year at this time we were experiencing 145 foreclosure notices per day, that figure is now up to 950 per day and rising.  What the press will not tell you is that these angry homeowners are destroying these homes when they are foreclosed and evicted. They take out the bath tubs, the toilets, the copper plumbing, the air conditioners, the flooring and even the windows.  So buying a foreclosed property is risky business.

Responsible people brought on this mortgage crisis through mismanagement, greed and sheer stupidity. It began in the Clinton administration when our politicians wanted the poor to own houses and they knew that most could not afford the payments.  Giving a $1.000,000 million dollar loan to the meat cutter at the local Ralph's Market making $75,000 a year was insane. But just as insane were lenders like Countrywide giving Obama and Christopher Dodd loans on their homes at 5% when the rest of us pee-ons were paying 6.5%.   Christopher Dodd and Obama were the highest recipients of money from Fanny Mae.  Barney Frank as chairman of the Finance committee is guilty of mismanagement and fraud much like what we now see going on with Acorn. People of this ilk need to be removed from office or put in jail.  But that is another fight.

The CEO of Countrywide was given a $30 million golden parachute... he should be sitting in jail and so too should some of our politicians who managed to look the other way because the rules of the game that they were creating served their own greed and not the interests of the American people.

Correcting these ills in our society will take several years and bailing out Wall Street, Washington Mutual, AIG and others instead of Main Street was crazy.  The $700 billion vote was the worse in our country in 200 years. Giving the wolf the key to the hen house will only bring on more corruption not less.  Let every company that is mismanaged fail.  That is what capitalism is all about. Today the closes thing we have to capitalism is two boys playing marbles with the winner taking all. I lost over $200,000 in the .com bust and no one bailed me out for my stupid decisions. My compassion is for the ten million people facing the loss of their homes and their jobs, not some rick white collar criminal who has learned to steal from us legally.  The CEO of AIG who told his shareholders that the company was sound 4 months ago should be thrown in jail.

My contacts in the lending industry tell me this is just the beginning.  Don't be surprised if the amount on your credit cards are sliced in half and the interest raised 5%. Don't be alarmed when your home equity loan is cut in half or totally eliminated and don't be shocked if you run a business and your line of credit is reduced by as much as 60% with interest of over 20%.  Those are going to be part of the personal sacrifices on each of us.

Therefore, my vote has to be with the man with the greatest experience, warts and all, a man who already knows his way around Washington, not a man who voted 130 times as "present."  Will Obama cast such a vote if Washington is bombed again by terrorists, will he merely tell us he is just sitting there and not take a stand?

This is not the time to teach a novice how to run a country, times are going to get really tough and we need someone in the White House that knows about isolation and hard times and someone who knows foreign policy not someone who will need to rely on his vice president, a man who made some really bad decisions in recent years and who suffers from 'hoof and mouth' disease.

As the author of 5 books on Balkan history I was outraged when Biden called the Serbs, "illiterates, degenerates, baby killers, rapists, butchers, guerillas, cowards and fascists."  And just imagine that was in just one interview on CNN, August 1, 1993.  Is this the kind of racists we can expect from Biden the vice president? Not since Hitler have we seen the demonization of an entire race of people like we continue to see with Serbia.

As an American of Serbian heritage who has suffered from Genocide twice in my lifetime I lost 17 of my relatives who were burned to death in a Serbian church by Croatian Nazis in 1942. The last 5 relatives of my name who were too old and too sick to flee Operation Storm in August 1995 when 200,000 Serbs were ethnically cleansed from Croatia.  I was notified a month later they were found with their throats slit. No one need teach me about war and its effects on the human condition.

The Clinton Administration was directly responsible for this illegal war that violated the UN Charter, The Helsinki Final Act, and the NATO Treaty and was launched without an Act of Congress or a UN vote.  A democratic president will see the return of Richard Holbrooke, Gen. Wesley Clark, and Madeleine Albright, the cast of players who did $60 billion in infrastructure damage to a sovereign country that did not attack anyone in that Civil War. We bombed hospitals, nursing homes, churches, schools, and entire villages then pretended they were military targets. Just like we pretended we did not know the location of the Chinese Embassy.  No one is being brought to justice for these war crimes.

These are the same Serbs that were our allies in two World Wars and who lost 30% of their population fighting on our side. The same Serbs who saved the lives of 513 downed American Airmen over occupied Yugoslavia and returned them to safety.  In 1942 by An Act of Congress, General Draza Mihailovich received the Legion of Merit Award, the highest given to a foreign national for that rescue and our State Department kept that award secret for 22 years. Shame on this country for stooping to such ugly politics.

We do not need to return to the politics of expediency, we need to return to sound judgment and McCain has 25 years experience working with both sides.  Beautiful speeches and flowery words is not going to save us in the terrible financial crisis in which Obama will not be able to do 10% of what he promises in those speeches.  He can't afford it with $700 billion now on the backs of the American taxpayers.  Get real folks, we are headed for a major depression and voting for a candidate with little to no experience is not in our best interest as a nation.

Hey William!!  I just wanted to congratulate you for winning $50 in our "Obama vs. McCain" contest.  Instead of choosing 3 lucky winners, I opted for 6 because they were ALL so good.  As you might imagine, it wasn't about which side one chose but your thought, creativity and imagination that mattered most.  Thank you for sharing your magic with the world and please send me an email so we can get YOU PAID!!  Much love, Jason

Your story is compelling and I sense that you have found joy in your life.  I was especially interested in your remark about hypno-yoga as I have published a book with that exact title (visit www.gmbooks.com).  Being married for 43 years to the same woman is not just unusual here in Hollyweird, it's a down right miracle. I wish you many more years of happiness and love.

Hi Bill,

Thank you for your friendship. Hong Kong truly is a wonderful place and will always be "home" to me; although I have not been back there since leaving in 1992. In true HK form, there are so many changes, and often I see photos and have NO idea where I am looking! LOL

I have just finished writing a book which is being edited right now, I would be interested in speaking with you about it.

Looking forward to getting to know you and hopefully collaborating in the future.

Love, Light, Peace, and Oneness,

Leyla

My company has had an office in Hong Kong for nearly 14 years.  I love the people there and enjoy many wonder relationships in both Hong Kong and mainland China.  Your story has such depth, emotion and color that I implore you to write a book about this incredible journey. I would consider it an honor to be considered your friend.

If you contact my mother, tell her that I beat the nursing home at their own game by writing, The Nursing Home Crisis, and I can already hear her saying that she "got the last laugh."

Ha! Kick in the head! Now I've got Dean Martin running through my head (not literally, of
course, although stranger things have happened...) Now I have another
song to go add to the list.

Nice to "meet" you!
