Life is....
Posted On 10/10/2008 12:18:24 by Mammy

Is life fair?

When I was six years old my sister found the ring in the brack. (A brack is a light fruit cake traditionally served at Halloween. It contains symbolic trinkets like a ring, a piece of stick and a piece of cloth. The ring is the by far best one to find!)

I protested to my father ‘that’s not fair’ and he said ‘would it have been fair if you found it?’

Those words come back to me every time I begin to think that life has treated me unfairly.

Right now, it’s been raining solidly here for almost 60 hours but in Somerset - not all that far away – they are enjoying their third consecutive day of sunshine.

Right now, I am cooking a nutritious meal for my family while others starve.

Right now, I am looking forward to a roaring fire and a warm bed while others wonder where they’ll sleep tonight.

Right now, I am safe while others fear for their lives.

Is life fair?

Or is life just life?

You are absolutely right with this life is neither fair nor unfair it just IS and how we perceive our reality is the difference.

Last week we had torrential rain and I was walking round with wet feet, wet trousers, and water coming through my front door because the porch flooded.  I just mopped it up and put in an order for some sunsine particularly since my youngest has a school camp next week.  There is no real benefit to envy or complaints that it's not fair so better to push that thought from our minds and deal with the challenging in the full knowledge that it will all roll around again soon as that is the nature of things we get both good and less good experiences, in tarot it's represented by the wheel of fortune card and the advice to enjoy and appreciate the good times when they come because it is all cyclical, and if you are having problems now have faith that it will all turn around.

Oh and Mammy, if the rain gets too much, Ryanair have flights that can get you to Bristol in less than an hour, come and spend a day with me in the sunshine and we can lift your spirits with a walk in the countryside or on the Pier at Clevedon and find somewhere overlooking the sea to eat an ice cream.
