If you really want to know how the bank crisis started watch this. Disregard the political advert. at the end.

Check out the facts. Google the items.
Then use your brain, not your emotions.

Remember the quote: "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".

Politicians want to stay in office. Most of what they do is to make sure they stay in office. Your welfare is secondary to this. They know that if they don't vote the party line, the party won't help fund their next election campaign. What is the solution? Vote independant. Neither the Democrats or Republicans have a solution. Look up the voting record of anyone running. If it follows the party line, vote them out. They are in office to represent you! If you have even been in a VA hospital, you know why the gov't. should NOT be running or providing health care. Question everything a politician says. Mark Twain said: "How do you know a politician is lying? His lips are moving." Presidents can't do what the candidates say they will be doing. Congress has to make & pass the laws. This is the worst congress in history. Look it up, don't believe me. Scare the sh*t out of them, vote independent this election, then vote any congressperson out of office in the next election who doesn't vote against government spending. Do you really want the government running insurance companies and banks? If you said yes, what about Fannie May and Freddie Mac? Didn't do such a good job there did it? There are more people in government under indictment or investigation than at any time in history. Give yourself a break, vote for the independent candidate or anyone who hasn't been in office before. Don't go by party lines. Remember, YOU will be paying for any gorenment program.  You can't tax the "rich", they already pay 90% of the taxes now. Don't believe me, look it up. You can't tax business, all that will do is raise the price of their goods or services to you. The way to reduce government deficit is to reduce government spending. This is just like your household budget. You don't get a raise, you can't spend more than you earn. You want to reduce your debt? Spend less. Buy what you need, not what you want. Search for bargains. Compare prices. Read the labels. You car payments should not be higher than your mortgage (or rent). If it says made in China, leave it on the shelf and ask for US made goods. Don't ask the clerk, ask the store manager. If you have to buy something foreign, make sure it if from one of our allies. like Korea, UK, Canada, Australia.

BTW, I'm registered as an independent.

The solutions are to stop forcing banks to make sub-prime mortgages, to stop forcing them to build branches in areas without the economic base to support a branch. To stop government from spending on anything that is not a direct stimulus to our economy. Cut foreign aid by 1/2. Give tax breaks to businesses that stop off-shoring jobs and return them to the US. Give tax breaks to businesses that provide health insurance to employees. Give tax breaks to companies that have over 85% of all workers working full time. Give tax breaks to companies that sell over 75% USA made products. The only way to finance our government is to increase the tax base, not raise taxes. Give tax breaks to companies that make alternative energy products in the US that are cost effective for the US workers.

Interesting thoughts.  We need solutions...not blame.  Personally, I love Kucinich, but I know the country is not behind him enough to get him elected.  My son loves Ron Paul, but it's the same story.  I know you say to vote as an independent, but most likely, that vote will have little effect in the current election, right?  If anything, it usually hurts the Democratic party.  Independents don't even come close to the numbers pulled in by Democrats and Republicans. I don't think the two-party system is working very well, but I hate throwing away a vote.  I know...the response is generally something along the lines of "we can't grow until others join," but it is a catch-22 situation.  Independents are going to have to get much more powerful before they can change the average person's mind.  Without larger numbers and a more powerful voice, the logic gets lost in the rhetoric.  The good news for independents is that the two parties may finally destroy one another.  We could see a massive change in how our government is run in the next few decades.  Anyway...just wanted to say I enjoyed reading your thoughts.  I admire those who stand up for what they believe. Best of luck!
